What To Do After Hitting ‘Publish’ Button On Your Blog Post?

It really takes some good amount of time and hard thinking to come up with a really good post and writing it down.

And, your work as a blogger doesn’t end at writing a blog post and publishing it on your blog.

There are few things you still need to do after you publish a new blog post.

If you just write a post and publish it and then move on to writing a new post, totally forgetting about the post you just published, then it’s of no use.

A blog post is worthless if it doesn’t have any reader. Having a post up on your blog and not having anyone to read it does not make any sense.

There are millions of blogs on the Internet and every blog has it’s own value. But you should be able to let people know the value of your blog.

And writing a blog post and sitting there, doing nothing doesn’t help a bit.

Making your blog post visible to the world is as important as writing it.

Also, it takes as much perseverance and hard work as writing it.

In this post, I have discussed few but imperative things that you need to do after hitting that ‘Publish’ button on your blog post to get maximum visibility.

5 essentials things to do after publishing a new blog post:

1. Indexing

It is recommended to take some immediate actions to get your new blog post indexed in the search engines. Your blog post will be ultimately indexed in the search engines but that is going to take a while. So, letting the search engines know that you have a brand new piece of content is the foremost thing you should do after publishing it. So, how to do it? Submit your blog post’s URL for Google indexing in Google Search Console. Another thing you could do immediately after publishing a blog post is to ping your post URL using free Ping services like Ping-O-Matic and Pinglr.

2. Social Shares

It is essential to let your followers and readers know about your new post. What could be a better medium than social media? Email your subscribers and let them know about your fresh content. But if you have fewer people on your email list, social shares can definitely help you take your new post to old and potential new followers. After publishing a new post, share it on your social media accounts; Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, Instagram, Pinterest, etc. Create an attractive post (image/infographic), a quote or excerpt from your post, a pinnable graphic for Pinterest and share it on your social media. You can also ask your friends and family to share your post (asking a favor won’t hurt). Scheduling your post is essential for effective social media strategy.

3. Social Media Groups

Sharing your blog-post on your personal and blog’s social media platforms is not quite enough. After sharing on your personal and blog’s social media platform, don’t forget to share your blog post on social media groups. You can share your posts in Facebook groups, LinkedIn groups, Google+ Communities, Pinterest Group Boards and more. Join various groups across the social media that are related to your niche and what you do. But keep in mind to be active in those groups and not just post the link of your blog post. If you are only going to post too many blog posts because that will make you look spammy and chances are you will be kicked out of a group. Pinterest Group Boards are becoming the best way to drive traffic to your blog. No matter how many groups you join, just remember to stay active and provide something of value to fellow group members and your readers.

4. Social Bookmark

Another thing you can do besides social sharing after publishing your blog post is submitting your post to the social bookmarking sites. These bookmarking sites are the platforms for their users to share their contents and reaching out to more people. There are many such sites; you can use any of them to your preferences. Reddit, Digg, Stumbleupon, Pinterest, Scoopit, Pocket, Weheartit, etc. are some of the famous social bookmarking sites. Social bookmarking is one of the factors of off-page SEO and it helps your blog posts to get indexed more quickly. It will increase your brand awareness and brings more traffic to your site. Sharing your blog-posts to one or more of these sites has only benefits for your website.

5. Bloglovin

This is not exactly a thing to do after publishing a post but rather prior to it but you will see the benefits of Blogloving after publishing your blog post. Bloglovin is one place where you can find any blog. You follow the blog you are interested and you will get all of their new posts on your Bloglovin feed. If you don’t already have a Bloglovin account, sign up now and start harvesting the benefits it provides. Once you link your website to Bloglovin, it automatically displays a preview in your followers’ feed every time you publish a new post. This is probably the best way to let the new blog readers find your blog. Bloglovin provides you the free marketing to your blog that you are looking for. Also, you can track your posts’ performances with the help of Bloglovin Analytics. Like other social platforms, you need to stay active here as well.

These are some of the essential things to do after you hit that ‘publish’ button on your blog post. Because just writing and posting an article on your blog means nothing. You should reach out to your potential readers and followers.

I did learn a few new ways to share content, i.e weheartit, pocket etc and I had no idea this would help to index. 😀
